Cookie policy

Every cookie this site can set is listed below — there are only three, and two of them won't load unless you say yes.

Last updated 8 September 2026

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others watch how the site gets used, which is useful to us but is not something you have to agree to.

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, we can only set non-essential cookies with your consent. The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 created an exemption for genuine first-party analytics, but that exemption is lost as soon as analytics data feeds an advertising platform. Our Google Analytics is linked to Google's ad products, so we ask for your consent rather than relying on that exemption.

Every cookie we can set

Strictly necessary

Needed for the site to function. Set by us, never shared, and exempt from consent under PECR.

ALWAYS ON
NAME jm-consent-v1
SET BY J&M Groundworks (first party)
EXPIRES 12 months
PURPOSE Stores whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask again on every page. Contains no personal information and no identifier.

Analytics

Only loaded if you accept. Turned off by default, and deleted if you later withdraw consent.

CONSENT REQUIRED
NAME _ga
SET BY Google Analytics
EXPIRES 2 years
PURPOSE Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count how many people visited, which pages they read and which services they looked at.
NAME _ga_<container>
SET BY Google Analytics
EXPIRES 2 years
PURPOSE Keeps track of the current session so a single visit isn't counted several times over.

We don't use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, social media trackers or Meta Pixel. If that ever changes, this page and the consent banner will change first.

Changing your mind

Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page, or the button below. Turning analytics off deletes the Google Analytics cookies from your device straight away.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the essential cookie, we'll have to ask about cookies on every page you visit, because the record of your choice is what that cookie holds.

Questions or complaints

Email [email protected] and we'll answer. How we handle personal data more generally is set out in our privacy policy.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
