Fences fail at the post, every time
Almost every fence we replace has sound panels and rotten or leaning posts. The cause is usually a post set too shallow, rammed in with soil rather than concrete, or timber sitting directly on wet ground with nothing between it and the soil.
We dig posts to at least a quarter of their above-ground height, set them in concrete, and fit gravel boards so the panels or boards never touch the earth. On boundaries we agree the line and the good side with you before we start, and we'll speak to the neighbour if it helps.
- Posts dug and concreted, minimum 600mm on a 1.8m fence
- Concrete or treated gravel boards keeping timber clear of the soil
- Pressure-treated timber throughout, cut ends re-treated on site
- Boundary line and 'good side' agreed in writing before we start
- Old fence, posts and concrete taken away — including the stumps
